Healthy Eating
We are learning about a healthy, balanced diet and the benefits of this. Today we cooked a vegetable stir fry. We talked about a variety of colours making the meal healthier – some of the children commented “it must be healthy then because it’s as colourful as a rainbow”. After reading Oliver’s Fruit Salad, we followed our stir fry up with a Fruit Salad Kebab. They were yummy!
During the cooking session, the children tasted many fruits and vegetables some of which they had never tried before. They tried courgettes, pepper, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, watermelon, kiwi, strawberries and many more.
We had a fantastic time during Sports’ Day. The races included hopping, running skipping and a good old fashioned sack race. The children received medals for winning, attitude and effort.
What an exciting Wednesday!
We got the pleasure of meeting a professional Artistic Gymnast on Wednesday called Jaydon Paddock. During the course of the afternoon, we completed some exercises and helped raise money for our school. Then we listened to Jaydon deliver a virtual assembly where he told us what it takes to become a professional athlete.
Thank you Jaydon. We all felt inspired to work hard and reach for our goals.

How exciting! This week in Year 1 and Year 1/2, we have started to learn about Autumn and what the word ‘Harvest’ means… so we put the word into action and ‘harvested’ our very own, school grown beetroots. The seeds were planted in the Spring time and today was the day to harvest our crop.

A couple of weeks ago, every child in Year 1/2 wrote a letter to Julia Donaldson telling her how much we loved her stories and asked her some questions. She sent back a signed reply addressed to the children. How exciting!
Why not check out 5 Minute Moves, Joe Wicks Body Coach on YouTube. This will help us to keep active and burn off some energy if we can’t get outside for any reason.

In Year 1/2 we use resources from Phases 3-5 so any of those games will support your child whilst still challenging them.
Enjoy and let me know how you get on!
In Science, we have been learning about animal classifications. We used a Venn diagram to sort different animals into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
In Maths, we have been comparing numbers using <, > and = . April demonstrated which number the “crocodile” would eat.
