Year 6 visited Sunderland University as part of the Primary2Uni events. Primary2Uni events allow pupils to visit campus to experience life as a university student for the day. The event aims to raise aspirations and attainment, whilst providing our pupils with an insight into Higher Education.
The workshops we attended were:
Degree or No Degree
This session gave our pupils the opportunity to consider their own career aspirations. Pupils participated in an interactive presentation, investigating which careers require a degree and which require an alternative pathway. They also explored different qualifications leading up to studying at university. This session introduced our pupils to careers, future aspirations, and pathways.
Passport to Year 7
This session helped our pupils to prepare for their transition to secondary school. It introduced pupils to different learning environments, focused on personal strengths and coping strategies, and linked resilience to academic achievement and aspirations.
We even took part in a campus tour. We had a brilliant day and as a result, 14 more pupils said they would like to attend University opposed to the 5 pupils we had at the beginning of the trip.
