PE – Tuesday and Thursday
Children come to school dressed in their PE kits.
PE Kit
White t-shirt
Navy blue shorts
Trainers (any colour) or plimsolls
Plain black, navy or grey jogging bottoms t-shirt, shorts and trainers.
Jewellery – No child is permitted to take part in physical activity wearing earrings including out of school sports partnership events during the school year.
Movement Break
Every day, we take part in a movement break which includes activities such as: skipping, ball skills, outdoor gym, trim trail and the daily mile.
Reading
Reading is tremendously important to learning in school and is a fantastic life skill. In school, we use the Accelerated Reader scheme.
All children will be listened to, by an adult at least twice every week. When the children have read their book they should let the teacher know so that they can take a test. When they score 80% or more on a test, 3 times, they can move up a level.
Children are expected to read at home every day. They should have their reading record signed by the adult they read to and the page they are up to. It is extremely important children bring their reading books in every day.
Children also have access to our class and school libraries to enjoy a variety of texts.
Our Year 6 pupils have access to Reading Plus at home and at school. This is an extremely important, personalised reading programme that greatly enhanced reading and comprehension levels.
Homework
Homework consists of reading, spellings and times tables. Year 6 also have access to Reading Plus. I may leave other tasks to complete throughout the year on Google Classroom.
Children should read every day at home for 10/15 minutes. Reading books are to be brought back into school daily.
Spellings are learned in school over the week and are available on Spelling Shed for pupils to learn at home. They should play at least 10 games, 3 times a week.
TTRockstars has been set for your child to work on at home for 10 minutes at least 3 times a week.

Respect Rules
We follow our Respect Rules in school which include:
- Listen to and follow instructions.
- Keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves.
- Be polite and show kindness to the whole school community.
- I will do my best at all times.
- Use appropriate school language: no name calling, teasing or bad language.
Year 6 are working towards individual and class rewards:
Reward card: children who complete ‘checkpoint’ stages on their cards will receive a prize.
Class rewards – we work as a team to incur reward points that will go towards a class treat of our choosing.
Finally, as a class we came up with a Year 6 motto – which I think is perfect!

What a fantastic Anti-Bullying Week! We dedicated this week to exploring how to use our power to stand up to bullying. Our week kicked off on Monday, where we celebrated differences by donning odd socks. Students then took part in special anti-bullying yoga and wellbeing sessions, focusing on developing the crucial skill of calm. To close the week, we challenged everyone to become upstanders by tuning into the insightful BBC Anti-Bullying Live Lesson.

Year 6 celebrated Children in Need this week to raise vital awareness and funds for the charity. We dressed up, completed comprehension activities, and competed in challenging maths code breakers. Throughout the day, we took time to understand what the charity stands for and ultimately succeeded in raising money for this worthy cause.

Children learned about different pathways into careers they are passionate about. They also learned about life at University.

Number DAY 2026
Y6 came dressed as numbers or in numbered clothing. We completed fun activities about number sense and solved mathematical problems.

World Book Day 2026
Year 6 had a great day in their pjs. We took part in the Big Footy and Booky lives quiz with the BBC. We also took part in an oracy task, where we shared our favourite books with each other. We ‘sold’ our favourite character, persuading peers to think that their character was the best!

What’s the best design for a paper aeroplane?
We tried and tested many designs for a plane, a helicopter and a glider. We took part in an oracy activity and discussed:

- What do you notice if you make the front heavier?
- What questions do you have about your own designs?
