Reading
Reading is tremendously important to learning in school and is a fantastic life skill. The school use the Accelerated Reader scheme and all children are heard read by an adult at least once every week. It is extremely important children bring their reading books in every day. Children also have access to our class and school libraries to enjoy a variety of texts.
In addition to having their own reading book and library book, we read for pleasure each day as a class. Our current reading for pleasure book is ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold, which the children are thoroughly enjoying. In our English lessons, we are reading ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx’ by Joe Todd-Stanton.
Homework
Year 4 homework consists of reading, spellings and times tables. I may leave other tasks to complete throughout the year on Google Classroom.
Children should read every day at home for 10/15 minutes. Reading books are to be brought back into school daily.
Spellings are learnt in school over the week and are available on Spelling Shed for pupils to learn at home.
Timestables Rockstars has been set for your child to work on at home for 5/10 minutes daily. We also have TTRS Club in class every morning at 8.30am.
Codes for TTRS and Spelling Shed can be found on the inside cover of your child’s reading diary.
