IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR PARENTS
9am until 9pm opening hours for South Tyneside Urgent Care for Children service
With effect from Monday 7 March, the nurse-led service at South Tyneside District Hospital will be open every day from 9am until 9pm. The temporary change has been necessary due to unforeseen staffing challenges. Parents are being reassured that the service will continue to be available for 12 hours every day to see and treat the vast majority of children who attend hospital with urgent, but not life threatening, problems.
The temporary change means the service will open one hour later at 9am (instead of 8am) and close one hour earlier each day at 9pm (instead of 10pm). Please see attached updated NHS information leaflet.
BBC NEWS – South Shields school wins Rainbow Flag Award for LGBT+ inclusivity
Forest View Primary teaches the children “everyone is welcome” in the school and “it’s OK to be who you want to be”, to learn and encourage acceptance between pupils.
Incorporating some LGBT+ historical figures and books into their curriculum to make it more diverse and to reflect today’s changing society, their work has seen them achieve a Rainbow Flag Award.
Vikki Thompson, SENCO class teacher, said educating the children from a young age gives them the “best chance” before they “go out into the big wide world”.

To support children with their mathematical confidence and fluency, we will be using a new app called 1-Minute Maths. The 1-Minute Maths app is freely available in the App Store and Google Play Store.
This free to download app helps children to practice:
– subsidising (recognising numbers of things without counting)
– addition (from adding 0,1 or 2 to single digits all the way up to bonds to 100)
– subtraction (from subtracting 1 or 2 all the way to 100)
The app is primarily aimed at children in Early Years and Key Stage 1, however, we have plenty of children in Key Stage 2 who would benefit from using the app for a few minutes each day.
It’s all about targeted practice in engaging, one-minute chunks!
This will help your child become more confident and fluent in these fundamental maths skills.
Thank you for your continued support.
