- First, log out of any other Google Accounts on the device that your child is going to be using for their learning. This means that they can easily access GSuite for Education and all of their school Google apps.
- (If you are still having problems, please open an ‘incognito tab’, this will stop the other Google Accounts from logging in automatically).
- Next, click the green log in button at the top right of the screen on our school website (www.forestview.uk.com).
- Enter your child’s username and password.
- If you do not know what their username and password is, please send me an email at [email protected] to confirm their details.
- Next, click on the icon for Google Classroom, the old fashioned chalkboard icon.
- Finally, they will be asked to ‘Join’ their class, either Year 1KC or Year 1/2AR.
- Once they have joined their class, you will be able to see messages from their teacher on the ‘Stream’ page and work set by their teacher on the ‘Classwork’ page. Each assignment will have instructions provided, but if you have issues with any activities, please do let us know.

A couple of weeks ago, every child in Year 1/2 wrote a letter to Julia Donaldson telling her how much we loved her stories and asked her some questions. She sent back a signed reply addressed to the children. How exciting!

In Year 1/2 we use resources from Phases 3-5 so any of those games will support your child whilst still challenging them.
Enjoy and let me know how you get on!
Our ‘Going on Safari’ topic has allowed us to explore stories set in Africa such as Handa’s Surprise, We’re Going on a Lion Hunt and Rumble in the Jungle. The children have really enjoyed using Talk for Writing drama techniques such as ‘story mapping’ and ‘freeze frames’ to rehearse each story and become more familiar with it. This has enabled the children to produce some fantastic pieces of writing in English lessons.
As part of our new topic, ‘Animals Including Humans,’ we have been learning all about African animals. The children have been using scientific vocabulary such as ‘herbivore,’ ‘carnivore’ and ‘omnivore’ to categorise different animals. In groups, the children were able to discuss different animals and explain why they fell into each category. The children were able to use cross-curricular maths skills in order to represent their findings using a Venn diagram.
Over the course of spring term, children in year 1 have been learning to use concrete resources to reinforce their understanding of addition and subtraction within 20. The children have been using Base 10, counters and cubes to deepen their knowledge of number bonds and addition and subtraction calculations.
