From chrysalis to butterfly

Today our butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis. We are going to watch them for a little while to see how they feed and to look at the lovely colours, then we will let them go.

Our Special Visitors!

Last Monday a special parcel arrived in Reception. We opened it up and we found some tiny caterpillars. Over the last two weeks they have eaten lots of food, grown considerably in size and changed into a chrysalis. Keep checking back to see when the butterflies emerge. The children are very excited! 🤩

Science Competition Success

In Reception we had two very excited children this week when they found out that they had won prizes in the ‘Design a lab coat’ Science competition.
Alfie M in Miss Waugh’s class won two prizes as he won the class prize and second place in the whole school!
Oscar in Miss Dixon’s class won the class prize.
Well done boys. Your designs were fantastic!

Story of the Week-Reception

Reading and storytelling with children promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships. Just by looking at books with your child and talking about them, you can be a great storyteller and a good model for using language and books. Your child will learn by watching you hold a book the right way and seeing how you move through the book by gently turning the pages. Reading stories with children has benefits for grown-ups too. The special time you spend reading together promotes bonding and helps to build your relationship with your child.
⭐STORY OF THE WEEK IN RECEPTION⭐
In Reception we will be promoting our story of the week on Google Classroom. Every week we will post a link to the story so you can share it with your child and also a list of activities that you can choose to do with them at home. Every time they complete a task and share it with their teacher they will be given a stamp on their home learning card and work towards earning different rewards.
Our story for the last two weeks was ‘Whatever Next’
This week after our story of the week will be ‘The Man on the Moon.’

Outdoor Learning in Reception

Play underpins the Early Years Foundation stage. It also underpins learning and all aspects of children’s development. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. Our Reception children have had a great time playing and learning outdoors this week. They have been extremely busy:
*Making and playing in ‘Kelly’s Restaurant’. Taking orders and making food.
*Making and completing their own obstacle course, then timing and recording how long it took everyone.
*Bouncing, throwing and jumping with balls.
*Practising walking on the stilts and using the ‘ankle skip’ and never giving up even when they found it hard.
*Making and then playing in their own ball pool.
*Making and acting out play in an ice cream shop.
*Taking turns to throw balls at targets and then adding up their scores.
*Using the paintbrushes and water to mark make.
*Drawing the staff and labelling them.
*Enjoying racing against our friends.
