Year 3JL are learning about ‘Light’ in Science and while learning about reflective material we noticed that our caretaker, Mr Dunn, wore hi-vis workwear. We decided to interview him. We learned lots about the importance of a caretaker to be seen at all times and especially in the fading light of Autumn. Mr Dunn said he felt safer wearing his reflective jacket. He also told us he used a torch for some parts of his job, which we recognised as an artificial source of light. After further discussions, pupils realised some of their relatives wore hi-vis clothing. Robyn’s grandad wore orange hi-vis as a builder and Charlotte’s dad wore hi-vis in the factory he worked in.

MP Visit to Forest View Primary

On Friday 27th October our school council welcomed Emma Lewell-Buck (member of parliament for South Shields) into our school. The children enjoyed thinking about what questions they wanted to ask her and were excited to find out what her job involves. She was asked everything from her day to day life in the job to what she thought of our Prime Minister! The children were surprised to learn that Emma had 20 jobs before she became an MP and that she had to travel down to London every week on the train as that is where she is based.
