Year 2

During Healthy Lifestyles Week, Year 2 discussed who keeps them physically healthy. We had some brilliant ideas and could name many of the grown ups in our lives who keep us physically healthy. The children created a lovely picture with their chosen grown up and described how they help them to stay physically healthy.

“We did lots of exercise in Healthy Lifestyles week. We did sports day and I really enjoyed it. ” – Roman

“Healthy Lifestyles means that you can eat healthy things and do lots of sports.” – Amelia

Year 3/4AB

During healthy lifestyles week, 3/4AB discussed what being healthy meant. We discussed different diet changes that could be made to allow us to eat healthier. We discussed what habits could be classed as unhealthy and why. We discussed the importance of balance meaning that we can all enjoy a treat every now and then but we must make sure we are eating lots of healthy food and moving plenty too. The children then created wonderful posters that promoted how to live a healthy life and why it is so important.

Year 4CB

Year 4 recapped lots of what they had learned about healthy lifestyles in PSHE this year. They discussed addictions, medications, staying fit and healthy and having a balanced diet. The children pointed out that while we do need some medications to keep us healthy, some medications can be dangerous. The children talked about different food groups and how we need to eat a balanced diet to get all the different nutrients our bodies need. We created posters to sum up all that we had discussed. Congratulations to Gracie for winning the year 4 poster competition!

Year 5AC

During Healthy Lifestyles week, 5AC recapped lots of what they had learned as part of their science teaching in Spring Term. We discussed healthy diets and the importance of a balanced diet rather than just eating fruits and vegetables all the time. The children were able to recall knowledge about the heart and circulatory system and how an unhealthy lifestyle can impact and damage this as well as being able to explain what people of different ages can do to stay fit and healthy. The children created ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ posters as part of our school’s competition and included all the key information they had learned.

Year 5KP

Year 5 had some excellent discussions around the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They were able to recap their prior learning about the heart and circulatory system as well as balanced nutritious diets. They created fantastic informative posters during Healthy Lifestyles Week. Well done year 5!

On Friday 17th November, the children at Forest View participated in Children in Need activities.

Year 1 practised their digital painting skills and used paintz.app to create images of Pudsey bear. The children showed lots of resilience and kept trying even though they found it challenging to use some of the different tools available to them.

Take a look at some of their excellent work!

In November, Year 6 participated in a “Show Racism the Red Card” workshop. They all made pledges promising what they would do if they saw racism.

Here is what some of the children had to say:
Leah- I learnt that you shouldn’t judge someone before you get to know them.”
Matea- “I learnt you should not make stereotypes of people who do not look us because we are all humans.”
Sophie- “I understand some of the racial slurs people use and I promise to tell a responsible person if I see or hear them”
Riley- “The games made the session fun and I liked learning about this type of stuff”

Reception

The children in Reception learned how to phone 999 in an emergency, practised heart massage and how to put someone in the recovery position. They were fantastic! They also learned how to relax by taking part in some yoga sessions.

The children in Nursery have been thinking about how to make a friend and how to make everyone feel special.

In Reception the children thought about saying ‘one kind word’ to each other as part of anti-bullying week. They discussed how to be kind and also thought of some kind words to describe their friends. They also found out about children who are less fortunate than themselves on Children in Need day. At the beginning of the week the children wore their odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique and to spread kindness!

In year 2 the children have been completing the Kidsafe programme. They have been thinking about what we can do if we ever have ‘yukky feelings’. They have also thought about who our trusted grown ups are and how we can talk to them if we ever do have yukky feelings. They have talked about the different forms of bullying and using our voices to say ‘NO’.  The children have also looked at the age ratings on computer games and DVDs and thought about how they are there to help to keep us safe. They have shown themselves to be very grown up during all discussions!

Year 3 have been very busy in their RSHE lessons. They made a class charter at the beginning of the year and have been covering the topics, It’s good to be me, fire safety and jobs in the NHS.

The children in year 3/4 have looked at the importance of relationships, who we have relationships with and who are important to us. They have been looking at responsibilities, how to deal with worries and choices and consequences. They also recapped their KidSafe knowledge and finished the programme with a special visit from KS.

During anti-bullying week the children in Year 4 became secret kindness agents. Their mission: to share kind words with as many people as possible in school. The children did fantastic in this mission and the class teacher had reports from our lunchtimes supervisors and our caretaker that they had been complimenting staff and thanking them for their hard work in school. They also played kindness bingo in class and wrote anonymous compliments about our classmates and it was wonderful to hear so many kind words shared!

In Year 5 the children have been focusing on ‘Daring to be different.’ They have learned strategies to help them to respect the opinions of others and have looked at appreciating risky choices and how to manage these in a safe way. This led them to discuss ‘not following the crowd’ and how to be assertive. They did a lot to help to work on the prevention of bullying as a result of this unit.

Year 6 took part in a ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ workshop with the NSPCC.
