Commando Joes
Commando Joes is a programme that is based upon a RESPECT curriculum and focuses on the character traits and life skills that a young person will need to draw upon as they go through life. (Resilience, Empathy, Self-Awareness, Passion, Excellence, Communication and Teamwork) Developing these skills also has a positive impact on our children’s educaticational attainment and engagement.
One of our main goals at Forest View is to build the confidence of our pupils. We believe that children with high self-esteem are better able to make difficult decisions under peer pressure, approach adults for support, and be self-sufficient in their learning. The Commando Joes programme develops this resilience through being part of a team, performing challenges or having a leadership role.
Commando Joe lessons are completed by children in Year 1 to Year 6, once every two weeks. During these lessons they will complete a series of challenges that require them to make hard decisions, accept responsibility for their actions and value one another as team mates. They enable children to develop their sense of adventure and increase their confidence and independence by taking part in new and unfamiliar activities. These transferable skills are vital as they become ready for the next stage of their learning.

Pupils had to show resilience and teamwork when transferring water across an obstacle course using only paper! We certainly got a little bit wet, had lots of fun and developed our problem solving skills.
